Child of Monsters

Hello all!  Rydia-mun here.

So, I haven’t gotten to RP with many of you, and, even though who I have, it’s been rather short bursts — with the exception of Cere et al, of course (<3)

I’m sorry to say, however, that, at least for now, we’re probably going to be idle.  I don’t want to say that Rydia is gone, exactly, but, since I’ve been mostly focusing on Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy IX on my commutes, thanks to my PSP, we haven’t been chatting as much, and… yeah, there’s just not as much to write about.

Thank you for your time and we hope to see you again sometime!

TMI TUESDAY: ASK ANYTHING
Attention roleplayers of original Final Fantasy characters!

ffocmasterlist:

There are oodles of masterlists that list roleplayers of canon characters, so finding a canon character, whether you’re canon yourself or oc, is relatively easy, is it not?

But finding other ocs is difficult, as most masterlists will not list them, so you find them by chance more often than not.

Well, no more! We aim to list any and all original characters associated with Final Fantasy in an attempt to promote a tighter community among ocs, as well as offer helpful guides to bettering your character or creating a new one, if you so wish to travel that route. (Most guides are currently still under construction, but direct counsel can be provided if you just send us a message!)

While we are not an involved masterlist like most and will not be organizing events of our own, we will more than happily advertise and promote any that you yourselves might come up with.

So, come get started!

There are various “days” celebrated in the Tumblr community, such as “Munday” for RP people, “TMI Tuesday”, “Thorsday”, “Sexual Sunday”

I think we need a day for monsters.

Monsters Monday is all about sharing the wonderful, and terrible, at least from a human perspective, aspects of monsterhood.

Monsters Monday!

I guess I’m a monster now too, not only a child of monsters.

Rydia nods in understanding.  That’s got to be rough.

There was a, I’ll say, interesting place in my world, a place under ground, where there are seas of magma, huge mountain ranges that stretch from one side of an island to the other.  The entire place was like a tremendous cavern, though some places the “ceiling” or “sky” wasn’t actually so high.  Certainly nothing one could reach, but still, visible.

In this place there were a couple of strongholds, built by dwarves.

Well, what I was getting to, she says as she thinks about just how much she would have to describe to be accurate, is that, even there, even though it wasn’t exactly “outside”, it still felt as though I was in the world.

In Valstand, it was really strange.  On the one hand, I could see the sky, and feel the wind — at least, sometimes I could, she adds.  But it still felt more…confined than in the Underground.

I’m glad you were able to make it out.

Lucil nods slowly, tracing patterns on the surface of the water with her toe.

“Yes,” she says eventually, raising her eyes to the sky as she thinks about it. “The sky was there, but it… wasn’t there, not exactly. It was like there was a layer of something else over it. Not the smoke… though that was there, too. But something. Something that kept you from seeing what the sky really was. Like your senses were… duller somehow.”

She pauses for a while, just watching the clouds scudding across the sky, taking in how real they feel now. The wilderness might be frightening, but at least out here, she feels like she’s truly in the world, like Rydia said. She feels alive.

“What do you think you’ll do?” she says after a time. “After you’ve explored the world.”

Rydia tries to suppress the laugh that builds up, and succeeds in her body, but not her mind’s voice.  Hahaha.

Sorry, she says after a moment.  I just cannot imagine a point where there won’t be something more to explore here.  Even if I fly over the the surface, or somehow see everything there is, the world is constantly changing, and so, even if I somehow explored it all, I think I could immediately go back out again and find new adventure.

After our journey, I will probably return to Lord Bahamut’s domain, and while I expect I will continue to leave on adventures, visiting various places of this world time and again, I’ll continue returning there.

What about you?  Where would you like to go once you have more experience as a summoner?

Yes, of course moving distances is easier, but it’s also easier to reflect like this, and I feel as though it’s easier to understand the ebbs and flows of magic.  There’s something about it, but I don’t know for sure.

She looks over at Lucil dangling her feet in the water.  I think I still prefer that form to walk through town, simply because of the logistics of getting this down streets.  She shrugs inwardly, unsure of what more to say.

Ah, I have some fruit for us.  And, despite what she said, she focuses and transforms back into her humanish form and carries over a few of the fruits with her, sitting down beside Lucil, and, after removing her own shoes, dangles her feet in the water as well.

“I’m not sure how this one will taste,” she admits, handing over a fruit that would be the size of a large grapefruit, with thin, green and yellow skin, the top marked with something like a starburst of orange.

“Oh!” says Lucil. “Thank you.” She takes the fruit and cautiously bites into it where the starburst is, surprised that, when she does so, she finds sweet juice and pulp; she’d thought it looked quite bitter.

“It’s good,” she says, as soon as her mouth isn’t full. “It’s sweeter than I expected… so refreshing.” She smiles. “It’s so nice to sit here, with this fruit, and the stream… really feels like summer. I haven’t really had a chance to get outside for…”

She pauses. Really, in Valstand, there wasn’t any place to “get outside”.

“A while,” she finishes, in the end.

Rydia nods in understanding.  That’s got to be rough.

Rydia nods and walks over to the remaining branch, saying, “I’m going to bring some of these to the people working on the waterwheel, and I’ll meet you down the stream a bit, if that’s okay?”

“Oh,” Lucil replies with a nod, “that’s fine.”

Rydia nods in reply and, gripping the branch in her hand, she concentrates and shifts forms, becoming a dragon again, and lifting the branch as if it were nothing more than a bunch of grapes, flapping her wings swiftly, she’s in the air in an instant and flies toward the waterwheel.

She lands nearby, dropping the fruit, and carefully picks a few pieces off for her and Lucil before calling out to the workers, Please enjoy the fruit, when you’d like to take a break, and, an instant later, she is in the air again, flying downstream, landing where Lucil pointed and curling up along the bank as she waits.

It takes Lucil quite a bit longer to get to where Rydia is, but at least the precise spot that her friend has chosen is easy to find. Dragon marks the spot, she thinks to herself with a small giggle, the vast creature visible even above the various construction efforts that are going on.

She sits down next to Rydia, taking her shoes off and dangling her feet over the edge, into the cool, clear water. She sighs with relief: it feels so good to relax, to refresh herself, mind, body and soul.

After a few moments of taking in the feeling, she turns to Rydia and smiles. “I suppose some things are a lot easier for you in that form,” she says.

Yes, of course moving distances is easier, but it’s also easier to reflect like this, and I feel as though it’s easier to understand the ebbs and flows of magic.  There’s something about it, but I don’t know for sure.
